IT and IT security for municipal utilities

Power, water and heat have to flow. We keep the IT behind them running and detect attacks early.

What makes utilities different

A municipal utility is supplier, grid operator and often also swimming pool operator or telecommunications provider at the same time. Besides office IT there are the control room, telecontrol technology and meter data. For a long time this operational technology (OT) was separate from the office network. Today it is almost always connected to it, and the risk grows with it.

Duties from law and supervision

Electricity and gas grid operators have to implement the IT security catalogue of the Federal Network Agency and have their information security management system certified, regardless of their size. Anyone reaching the thresholds of the KRITIS regulation also needs an attack detection system (SzA). With NIS-2, many more utilities fall under these duties.

The page IT for Critical Infrastructures explains thresholds and duties in detail.

Operations from the NOC

Our NOC monitors network, servers and firewalls around the clock. We separate office IT and operational technology cleanly, maintain the rule sets and document every change. That saves time when something fails and provides the evidence for the audit.

The page Network Operations Center (NOC) describes all building blocks in detail.

Attack detection in the SOC

Our SOC detects attacks on your IT and OT infrastructure, assesses them and initiates countermeasures. For KRITIS operators we implement attack detection systems (SzA) in line with the requirements of the BSI. We bring the platform for this with us and operate it ourselves.

The page Security Operations Center (SOC) describes all building blocks in detail.

A partner from Bavaria

All municipal utilities we work for today are based in Bavaria. Our office is in Traunstein. If someone needs to be on site, we come to you.

Why we name no customers

This page names no customers. Utilities rarely name their IT service providers in public, and every name shows attackers a possible way in. That is why we only state the sector and our numbers. In a personal conversation we will tell you more about how we work.
